The summer is officially over. Ev started 1st grade this morning at her new school! It's been a crazy 6 months at our house, but today hopefully marks the first day of a new routine and one step closer to settling into our new place.
E got to meet her new teacher at the ice cream social last week. She was excited to see her again today for the official first day of 1st grade!
Quick recap since I've been a less-than-stellar blogger this year....
Keeping with true Carpenter form and for the second time in six years, we bought this house without me having the opportunity to see it first. We happened to stumble upon the listing online the day it went on the market and there was some competition from other buyers. Since Eli was already working in KC, he could take a look that same day. We both knew if we wanted to make an offer, it had to be that day or it would be sold. Long story short, we got the house and the first time I saw it was on inspection day.

We had our house in Arkansas listed for sale, but after 6 months on the market without much traffic, we opted to lease it to another family for a year. Hopefully the market in NWA will improve in the next year so we can give it another try on the market next summer.
Obviously, we finally got organized and relocated everything and everyone to Kansas City last month. This move was the worst of them all to date, and if you know how often we move, then you know that's really saying something. With a stubborn husband who reluctantly dragged his feet all the way to the Arkansas state line and two kids whose toys/books/crap accounted for about half the moving truckload, it was a relief to finally get to Kansas with everyone in one piece. I don't think I've ever said this before, but after this move....I NEVER want to move again! Moving with kids is about 1000 times more work than it was before they arrived.
And now that we're here, the kids seem to love it! Our new neighborhood is filled with kids and our little cul-de-sac has 11 boys under the age of 7, and nine of those boys live in just 4 houses! As you can imagine, Finn is in heaven! Our old 'hood was lacking in the boy department, so he's not complaining a bit. We have several friends who live here, so once we got moved and halfway settled, it didn't seem like we were foreigners for long. We also discovered some old friends from high school and our OU days live around the corner in the same subdivision, so it was great to see some familiar faces right away.
The other change at our house is that Hank has also relocated.....to Georgetown, Texas! Our new house doesn't have a fence, so he wasn't able to get outside and roam independently like he was used to in our previous homes. He also wasn't great around smaller kids (including our own) and since there are SO many kiddos outside in our neighborhood now, we were worried he'd snap at one. Now Hank lives next door to my parents, with a great couple who is spoiling him rotten! Golf cart rides, trips to DQ, naps on the couch....I'm pretty sure he wouldn't come back to us even if he could!

What happened to Rossi?
Beautiful house! We are right there with you on this moving stuff. We are still unsettled in WA--closing on our house will be Friday. But I'm like you---I never want to move again. Too bad I married into the military. ;) Love the first day of school pics. Love those 2-front teeth missing smiles. :)
Rossi and Hank didn't get along so well, so she had to go back to the vet. She found another home though, so that eased my guilt a bit :)
